Before You Go
Powerman Zofingen will, once again, be host to 2022 WT Long Distance Duathlon World Championship.
The small town of Zofingen at the western tip of Aargau canton, once the seat of the Frohburgs, is famed for its beautifully intact Old Town with gardens along the former surrounding walls, and the Heiternplatz square at the top of Zofingen’s “own” hill, the venue for the annual Heitere Open Air festival.
The old city took on its present appearance in the 17th and early 18th centuries when mediaeval houses were gradually replaced by baroque buildings. The main landmark is Zofingen’s town church, with Romanesque and Late Gothic sections. Archaeological digs have revealed the remains of previous buildings: the first foundation walls were erected in about 600 AD. Many historical buildings are now resplendent after renovation work in recent years. One hub of all events in Zofingen is certainly the quaint and unique old town, often ranked among the loveliest in our country.
The 22 fountains of Zofingen
The old town of Zofingen not only impresses with how well-preserved it is, but also through 22 active fountains. The most famous of these 22 is the Niklaus Thut Fountain, which was created in 1894 as a donation from the Swiss student society „Zofingia“ on its 75-year anniversary. The Niklaus Thut Fountain is by no means the only one worth admiring, however.
